SEEdS for Success Learning Modules
Our goal is to repackage traditional curriculum segments into a new, standards-based curriculum that will consist of 6-8 short to long-term SCL problems that cast the students’ science learning in a real-world context.
The real-world problems will develop a need for them to know the STEM concepts and allow students to develop research, collaboration, communication, and other 21st century skills.
By integrating these modules with existing core subjects such as biology and chemistry, we will help many high-needs students complete their college preparatory requirements. Follow-on modules will be coordinated with Career and Technical Education tracks to further guide these students toward graduation.
Teachers will act as “learning mentors” and traditional textbooks will be used as references rather than as abstract day-to-day lessons.
These modules include alternative assessment techniques including performance-based assessments and culminating artifacts and presentations of student work.
Teachers will be supported by instructional coaches, video demos of lessons and peer networking in addition workshops on using problem-based learning.
